What Does Math Look Like?

This grant will offer students opportunities to see what math really looks like by watching it on a specialized projector.
Materials funded:  In Focus-In Focus XI projector and supporting materials  ($2,172.00)
Jeopardy?
Recipient: Deanne Clifford, Lake City High School
Students will be offered opportunities to have fun while reviewing math concepts by playing a computerized Jeopardy game. Materials funded:  Classroom Jeopardy game and storage cartridges  ($492.60)
TI for the Mathematician’s Soul
Recipient:  Jane Roletto Hammons, Canfield Middle School
Students will be offered opportunities to learn algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics using a TI-73 middle school graphing calculator and to see, understand and interpret relationships between variables in equations.
Materials funded:  TI-73 Calculator Teacher Kit, Viewscreen calculator kit, laboratory system, activity book and handbook  ($4,505.48)
Scratch Your Brain
Recipients:  Kristin Childers, Jason Peebles, Paula Smith, Hayden Lake Elementary School
This grant will offer students a chance to excel in math and stretch their minds through working with manipulatives, games and activities appealing to different multiple intelligences and enhance the thought process of math. Materials funded:  activity books, manipulatives and games  ($341.79)

2002
Three-D-Math
Recipient:  Mary Frey, Project CDA, Middle School
A grant awarded for the purchase of an XL Ellison LetterMachine and 3-D geometric die cutters, project book and instructions. Students will experience math through a hands on project approach. Their curiosity will be sparked through demonstration that it is more than numbers on a piece of paper, and that math exists in art and the spatial realm as well.

S.T.A.R. Math
Recipients:  Kathy Kuntz, Stella Gutz, Judy Collins, Lisa Ramsey, Bobby Bunch, Mary Bologna, Hayden Lake Elementary School
Grant awarded for the purchase of a S.T.A.R. Math School License kit for up to 200 students. This will help teachers assess which math areas need more emphasis.

Using technology in the classroom to visualize mathematics
Recipients:  Jayne Mills and Deanne Clifford, Lake City High School
A grant awarded to purchase a projector, screen, work station, software and a printer. This  equipment will allow students to experience 3-dimensional, visual  mathematical concepts in order to make the math connection to the real world an easier task.
Who wants to be a mathillionare?
Recipient:  Jane Roletto, Canfield Middle School
A grant awarded to purchase a wireless set of color-coded response modules (buzzers), question card sets, and a spinner board. Students will use a buzzer system to provide answers to questions, volunteer information, and indicate completion of tasks.    
First in math
Recipients:  Kathy Montgomery, Karen Troxel and Pam Pratt, Skyway Elementary School
A grant awarded to purchase math manipulatives,  cards and other math supplies. This project will expand the current First Math Project by providing a critical link between the students classroom and the students home.

A grant to purchase Geometer's sketchpad software which enables student exploration of geometry and algebraic concepts.
