This grant will purchase a karaoke
machine for second grade reluctant readers. The students will be
motivated to learn new vocabulary. ($411.00)
"Projecting" a Bilingual Future for Coeur
d'Alene Middle Schoolers

This grant will purchase a C160
projector, transportation for two field trips, and CD’s/books and art
supplies for use in Spanish classes in grades 6,7, and 8. The students
will prepare and present varied activities for classmates, explore
Spanish customs and participate in Cinco de Mayo at Cd’A high, create
computer generated games and present them to class, and use newly
acquired Spanish skills for a “real life” dining experience at a
Mexican restaurant. ($2,000)
Sixth Graders Doing in Depth Digital
Documenting

This grant will purchase 2 digital
cameras, Photo Shop, CD-RW to create CD’s, CD’s and photo paper for
use in the 6th grade. Students will produce a slide show incorporating
the academic and social activities they encounter throughout the year
and create a class CD at the end of the year for each student’s record
of their year in 6th grade. ($1,305.00)

think critically, and express their opinions orally, through debate techniques.

Our Treasured Senior Citizens

Students will get to know a senior citizen in the community and will write
this person’s life story in a book that contains photos of the person’s life, as
well as current photos taken by the student.
Materials funded: digital camera, bookbinding combs, and various types of
paper ($422.00)
Encouraging Real-World Usage in the World Language Classroom

This
grant will offer students the opportunity to communicate in unique and global
ways with their new languages, creating international friends and bridging the
cultural gap that appears between countries.

purchase of a Minolta Dimage 7i digital camera, 128 mb memory card.
Partnering with a professional photographer, students will gain experience
taking, editing, and publishing digital photographs for various purposes and
audiences.
Author Tom Birdseye in the Classroom

Sorensen Elementary School
A grant to
purchase Mr. Birdseye’s time to e-mail through the year and to visit our
school in the spring for one day, with half of the day spent in Mr. Groth’s
classroom. Mr. Birdseye will communicate with 5th graders via email as they read
his books and while he visits our school he will stimulate students to read and
help with the writing process.
Things Fall Apart: Multi-Cultural Literature
for Senior English

A grant awarded
for the purchase of 75 copies of Things Fall Apart and ten copies of the
short story anthology Other Voices, Other Vistas. Seniors will study
multi-cultural literature while reading short stories and novels by authors from
a variety of cultural backgrounds. Students will identify and compare own
experiences to those of others in situation, events, and cultures within reading
selections.
